About

Michelle Malanca has over 15 years of experience in the field of environmentally sustainable development, from strategy and planning through implementation and construction.

Michelle works with organizations to deliver effective green building and sustainability outcomes. Her projects have included work on several green building rating systems internationally, promoting the uptake of green buildings in Africa, and integrating sustainability initiatives into large property developments.

Michelle has made numerous presentations on green building topics, including at conferences in the US, Mexico, Australia, Kenya and South Africa.

With a bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz, Michelle began her career in urban planning and environmental assessment. She later worked for several years in construction management and has first hand experience in the practicalities of implementing environmental initiatives into development projects.

The former Technical Director at the Green Building Council of Australia, Michelle was responsible for the development of green building rating tools for the retail, healthcare, education and multi-unit residential sectors.

A LEED Accredited Professional since 2003, she now serves on the USGBC LEED Implementation Advisory Committee. Michelle is also Co-Chair of the Sustainability Committee for the Urban Land Institute (ULI) San Francisco District Council.
